Slavko (Steve) Kenjic
April 12, 1926 – December 8, 2010
Age 84
The Lord called Slavko home on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, just three days before his beloved wife's ninth anniversary in heaven, to celebrate together on Saturday, December 11th. He earned his angel wings with his family by his side. Together Slavko and Mary raised nine beautiful loving children whom married and had children, whom had children, and the immediate family grew to an astonishing number. Together they leave behind: Walt Grochowski, CO, Linda (Wayne) Monette, Valparaiso, Michael (Melissa) Grochowski, LaPorte, Millie Kenjic, Lake Station, Dorothy Kenjic, Lake Station, Wanda (Anthony) Broocker, KY, Lillian (John) Arena, Valparaiso, Joe (Kimberly) Kenjic, Hobart and Tanya (Edward) Krumrie, Portage; 12 Grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and other loving family members and friends.
Slavko is a retired carpenter from I.H.B. Railroad in Hammond. He was born in Sarajevo Yugoslavia where he was captured in his early teens and became a prisoner of war. After being captured, he never saw his parents and siblings from that day forward. He will now be reunited with them in heaven, and what a celebration it will be. The history he leaves behind is a novel in itself. He enjoyed watching sports of all kind, but his favorite was horseracing. He was a simple man who always made sure he had food on the table and clothes on his children's back, even if that meant he had to go without a meal himself. He will be so dearly missed, but the history of him will go on for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association or The National Kidney Foundation of Indiana.
