SOPHIE GRENNES, age 94, of Portage, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 25, 1918 in Gary to the late Flora and Andrew Sam. She was a longtime Portage resident, formerly of Hobart, and was a member of the Garyton Covenant Church. She will be deeply missed.
Sophie is survived by her 2 sons, Frank (Judy) Grennes, Jr. of Bremen, Jack (Cathe) Grennes of Hobart; 3 daughters, Carol (David) Foster of Portage, Sandra (Merlin) Guthrie of Berea, KY, and Penny (Clark) Vaughn of Washington, GA;10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Daniel (Sandra) Sam of Valparaiso, David (Bennie Lynn) Sam of UT, and Paul (Melanie) Sam of Oregon; her beloved dog, Molly; other loving family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; 5 brothers, John Sam, Theodore Sam, Andrew Sam, Jr., George Sam, and Joseph Sam; 1 sister, Flora Scott.

A funeral service for Sophie will be Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel with Pastor Carol Nordstrom officiating.
