Spiro J. Johnson, age 95, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was born in Gary, Indiana on November 22, 1920 to the late James S. and Gladys (nee Varvel) Johnson. Spiro proudly served his country in World War II as a United States Marine. Spiro was a retired Iron Worker from Local 395. He was an avid member of the Northwest Indiana Bowling Association where he served as secretary and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Spiro will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Spiro is survived by son in law, Joseph P. Cortese; grandsons, Joseph S. Cortese, Craig (Amanda) Cortese; great granddaughter, Caralyn; loving sister, Kelly Needham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emily (nee Keltyka) Johnson; daughter, Barbara Jean Cortese; infants, James, Frank, Kathryn; sisters, Angeline Diamond, Alice Wilson, Helen Vought; and brothers, Gust Johnson, Homer Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial Donations may be made, in Spiro's honor, to his family.

A funeral service for Spiro will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342.
