Stefano Maggio, age 83 of Hobart passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012. He was born in Sambuca, Sicily, Italy on December 7, 1928 to the late Antonino and Francesca Maggio. He worked at the Budd Company retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Bridget Church and the Italian American Benevolent Society. Stefano was an wonderful gardener and enjoyed traveling especially to Sicily.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Maggio of Hobart, IN; a son, Tony (Carol) Maggio of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Francine (Steve) Nolan of Sun Lakes, AZ; 1 brother, Pietro (Teresa) Maggio of Hobart, IN; 2 sisters, Rita Gandolfo of Sambuca, Sicily; Lilla (Lorenzo) Ciaccio of Schererville, IN; 1 sister-in-law, Clara Sparacino of IL; 5 grandchildren, Anthony(Melissa)Maggio, Corine Maggio, Jeremy Maggio, Jason (Sarah) Nolan, Eric Nolan, great-grandchildren, Adriana, Delaney, and Brooks, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Angelina Maggio in 1979, and Sister-in-law, Michelina Maggio.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. directly at St. Bridget Church, corner of Front and Center Streets, Hobart with Rev Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Entombment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Visitation is Friday, May 4, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
