Steve William Saroff, age 89, a resident of Portage passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. He was born on November 10, 1921, the son of Blagoy and Fania Saroff. Steve proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard an aircraft carrier during World War II. He was married to Alice Lorraine Crowley on July 18, 1947. Steve was a retired ironworker with over 35 years of service with the Ironworkers Local 395. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, and was a championship swimmer. Steve was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a good friend to all.
Steve is survived by his loving family daughter Susan M. (Louie F.) Steege, Portage, grandchildren Michelle R. (Michael F.) Yudt, Portage, and Michael V. (Heather) Steege, Valparaiso, great-grandchildren Mason Yudt and McKenzie Steege, dear brother George Saroff, Portage, and other loving family and dear friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife Alice Saroff, and his grandson Steven Steege.
A visitation for Steve Saroff will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. Additional visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 18, 2011 with a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
