Steven Paul Metz,

Age 64, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away on February 4, 2026. He was born on March 31, 1962, in Gary, Indiana. Steve was a proud union operator with Local 150, where he dedicated many years of hard work and service. He was a man who lived life with Joy, humor, and heart. Known for his happy, goofy personality.

Steve loved to laugh, tease, and joke especially with his beloved daughter, who was the light of his life.

He enjoyed fishing, caring for his pigeons and chickens, and had a deep love for stock cars, a passion that brought him excitement and lifelong memories. Steve had a playful spirit and a kind soul that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Steve will be remembered for his humor, his love for life, and the deep bond he shared with his daughter. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Metz (Zach Canrasky); brother, Mike (Cathy) Metz; nieces, Courtney (Zach) Nickoles and Nichole (Ashley) Owen; nephew, Alex (Halie) Metz and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pam Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers donations to his daughter Ashley would be appreciated.

A funeral service for Steve will be held Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 5:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Cremation to follow. A visitation for Steve will also be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 2:00 pm until the time of service.
