SUSAN L. THORNBERRY, age 53, of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was born on December 6, 1959 in Gary, Indiana to Dorothy (nee Small) and Leslie Shirey. She was employed as an RN at Saint Mary Medical Center. Susan enjoyed gardening and loved her dogs. She will be deeply missed.

Susan is survived by her parents, Dorothy and Leslie Shirey of Syracuse, IN; 1 brother, Gordon (Janet) Shirey of Hobart; 3 sisters, Barbara Workman and Debbie Luedtke both of Hobart, and Pam (James) Williams of Westville; best friend, Gail (Jerry) Grieger of Valparaiso; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends; beloved pets, Daisy and Missy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thornberry; grandparents, Harry and Ruth Small and Dwight and May Shirey; and brother-in-law, Thomas Luedtke

A memorial service for Susan will be Monday, December 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary S. Nagy officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W.
