Susan Zacharzuk, age 85 of Portage passed away Thursday December 8, 2022, at the St Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Susan was born December 6, 1937, in Gary, Indiana to the late Lauro and Socorro (Salas) Cerda. She was a switchboard operator that worked at Barry University in Miami, Florida as well as some retail including Shopper's Fair where she met "Little Jerry". She loved to dance and was the life of the Party. She loved her cat "My Baby".
Susan is survived by two daughters, Laura (Eric) Garcia of Moriarty, New Mexico, and Richele (Jimmy) Kopec of Hollywood, Florida; two brothers and a sister, Joseph Cerda of Hobart, Robert Cerda of Hammond, and Sally Carrales of Portage; five grandchildren, Brenden (Kathleen), Amanda, Jolene, Taylor, and Lauren; five great grandchildren, Joeseph, Trinity, Zadie, Nikoli, and Josiah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jerry; her parents; two daughters, Theresa Zacharzuk, and Connie Crawford; a granddaughter, Ariel Garcia; two brothers Manuel Cerda and Lauro Cerda, Jr.; and many other dear relatives.
Visitation for Susan will be from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday December 14, 2022, at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin with 9:30 am Prayers at the Funeral Home and Process to St Bridget Catholic Church for 10:00 am Celebration of Mass officiated by Rev. Benjamin Ross. Burial will follow in Calumet Park Cemetery.
