Sylvester A. “Bud” Kasprzak
Age 95, of Merrillville, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. He was born on September 3, 1930, in Gary, Indiana to the late Sylvester and Katherine (nee Lis) Kasprzak. Bud proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, a time that shaped his strong sense of duty and perseverance. Following his service, he dedicated 40 years as a postal carrier at the Glen Park Post office, faithfully walking the Glen Park neighborhood of Gary, Indiana rain, snow, or shine becoming a familiar and trusted face to many along his route.
An outdoorsman at heart, Bud had a deep love for fishing, nature, Lake Michigan and hiking the Indiana Dunes, which he enjoyed year-round. He found peace in the natural beauty of Northwest Indiana and rarely passed up a chance to be outside.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Kasprzak, and a proud father to his son, Paul (Kiriaki Koula) Kasprzak and daughter Karen (Todd) Hutson. Nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren Alex and Luke Hutson, who were the light of his later years. Bud was also lovingly remembered by his nephews, Rev. David Nowak, Gregory Nowak and his niece Lorrie Geer, along with extended family and friends who will miss his quiet strength, reliability, and love of the simple things in life.
Bud lived a long life marked by service to his country, his community, his family and leaves behind a legacy of dedication and love.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rita Kasprzak.
