Sylvia J. Cates (nee Konicke), age 73 of Hobart formerly of Valparaiso passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014. She was born on July 28, 1941 in Kinderhook, Michigan to the late Stanley and Agnes Konicke. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Route Carrier. Sylvia was a very kind woman who enjoyed camping with her family, dancing with Roland, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was very loved and will be missed greatly.

She is survived by her significant other, Roland Lewis of Hobart, IN; 2 daughters, Kimberly (Michael) Tucker of Noblesville, IN; Kristine (Corey) Springman of Rosenberg, TX; 5 brothers, Tom (Nancy) Konicke of AZ; Dan Konicke of TX; Mike Konicke of KY; Tim Konicke of AZ; Bob (Michelle) Konicke of Portage, IN; 3 grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Donaldson, Aaron Tucker of Indianapolis, IN; Joshua Tucker of Noblesville, IN; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Konicke.

Funeral services are Saturday at 12 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Mark DeMateo officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
