Tage Ernst Borg, of Portage, Indiana
Tage was born on August 5, 1921 in Hedemora, Sweden and immigrated to the United States in 1927, settling in Garyton, Indiana (now Portage). While in high school, he excelled in music and played many instruments. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving with the VD5 Photo Recon unit stationed in the Pacific. Tage was a member of the Carpenter's Union for over 65 years and worked in construction for both Gariup and Gerometta Construction companies. Tage was one of the original Portage Township volunteer fire fighters. He was also a Boy Scout Leader. Tage was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (nee Sum) Borg. Tage and Helen have three daughters, Barbara (Denis) Jenkins of Portage, Indiana, Phyllis Borg (Bill Layman) of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Kathleen (Chuck) Palia of Lisle, Illinois. Tage was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren, Wayne (Ho Mei Li) Byarlay of Dayton, Ohio, Jennifer Blank of Center Hill, Florida, Stephanie (Nathan) Gabbert of Pendelton, Indiana, and Erin Thomas (Brian) Orr of Naperville, Illinois. Tage has seven-great-grandchildren, Andrianna Saporita of Westland, Michigan, Mia and Micah Byarlay, Dana and Aubrey Gabbert and Hayden and Hudson Orr. Step grandchildren include Stephanie Palia (Dave) Henke of Cypress, Texas, Matt Palia, Pennsylvania, and Walter Layman of Park City, Utah. Tage was preceded in death by his parents, Aina (Jernberg) Borg Johnson and Edward Ernst Borg; stepfather, Albert Johnson and his brother, Tore Ernst Borg.

A funeral service for Tage will take place Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, April 2, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
