Thaddeus V. Subartowicz, age 79 of Chesterton passed away March 1, 2012. He was born on September 26, 1932 in Gary, Indiana. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Thaddeus retired from U.S. Steel with 42 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 94 of Valparaiso. Thaddeus enjoyed bowling and flying remote control helicopters. He was also very handy and loved fixing things.

He is survived by his wife, Lotte Subartowicz (nee Berndt) of Chesterton, IN; 2 sons, Joseph (Charlene) Subartowicz of FL; Steve Subartowicz of Chesterton, IN; 4 daughters, Janet Jones of Chesterton, IN; Anna Marie Peters of Valparaiso, IN; Barb and Christine Subartowicz, 1 brother, Edwin Subartowicz of Hobart, IN; 1 sister, Helena Zielniski of , grandchildren, Shannon and Amber Lunsford and many other grandchildren.

Funeral services are Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Rev. Mike Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation is Monday, March 5, 2012 from 2 p.m to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.
