Theodore C Youngman, age 96, of Lake Station, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, IN. He was born October 11, 1916 in Aurora, Illinois. He served as a Captain in the US Army in WWII and the Korean War. Ted was a member of VFW Post 9323 and the American Legion Post 100. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Councils 3283 and 12149. He was a member of the Lake Station Historical Society and Toast Masters. Ted was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church and participated in the Holy Name Society and St. Vincent de Paul. He retired from the Illinois Bell Telephone Company in January of 1978 after 41 years of service and operated "Ted's TV" for many years in his spare time.
He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Donald) Crissman of Valparaiso, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren along with several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy in 2010, son Donald Youngman, parents Frank and Elsie Youngman, and sisters: Viola Stover and Caroline Bentson.
Friends and family may gather on Wednesday, March 20th from 2 – 8 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart. There will be a VFW service at 4 pm and a Knights of Columbus service at 7 pm. Theodore will be taken to St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station, Thursday morning, March 21, 2013 for visitation at 11:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 12:00 pm with Rev. David W. Kime and Msgr. James Gunn (nephew) concelebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Xavier, St. Vincent de Paul, VFW Post 9323 or the Porter County VNA.
