Theresa A. Carpenter (nee Franko), age 88, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021. She was born on January 7, 1933 in Gary, Indiana to the late Joseph and Theresa Franko. She worked for many years as a commercial loan officer for Gainer Bank and later Centier Bank. She was a past president of Business and Professional Women. Theresa will be remembered for her great sense of humor.  She always kept her family laughing.

She is survived by her son, Rick Carpenter; daughter, Debbie Carpenter; four grandchildren, James (Kelly) Carpenter, Amy Loney, Eric (Amanda) Carpenter, Adam (Melissa) Carpenter; 10 great grandchildren; brother, James Franko; sister, Anne Breyfogle; many nieces, nephews and loving family members and friends. Also surviving are all of her extended family members at Golden Living Center in Portage. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff and residents at Golden Living Center for the love and support they have shown over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Carpenter in 1965; and three brothers, Paul, Joseph and William Franko.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Theresa's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96 ^th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.

A funeral service for Theresa will take place Monday, February 22, 2021 at 7:00pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Calumet Park Cemetery.
