Thomas Askren

Thomas Askren, age 73, of Portage passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Thomas was born June 27,1950 to the late John E. and Dorothy (nee Jackman) Askren.  Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired from Inland Steel, where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Living Hope Church in Portage and was a member of the Portage Masonic Lodge Chapter #741. Thomas loved helping at church and enjoyed working with wood, hunting, and gardening. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Thomas is survived by his two sons, John Askren and Thomas Askren; three daughters; Heather Plybon, Mollica Askren and Heather Maravilla; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister, Brandy (Pete) Morris and many other loving family members and dear friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Ellen" Askren and his parents.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 21,2023 at 12:00 p.m.  at Rees funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue Portage, Indiana 46368. A visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.  A burial and graveside service will follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage, Indiana.
