Thomas R. Belt

Thomas R. Belt passed away April 12, 2017. He was born in Rosiclare, Illinois on October 9, 1934 to Ruey and Leafy Belt. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Belt in 2013. They were married on May 4, 1954. They had 4 children, Sharon Payne of Portage, IN; Debbie Ashbaugh of Valparaiso, IN; Lisa (Jim) Kurman of Kenosha, IL, and one son Robert Belt who preceded him in death in November 1963. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jami (Mike) Forster, Charles Vukovich, Shawn Ashbaugh, Chris (Robyn) Ashbaugh, Veia, Josh, Max and Layla Kurman, . Thomas was an avid car enthusiast and especially enjoyed restoring VW bugs in his later years and spending time with his friends in the garage. He worked at the Budd company for over 25 years. He also worked as a Steel Hauler for a time. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services are Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
