Thomas J. "Pops" Beyster
Age 78, of Valparaiso passed away Friday, June 6, 2025, at his home. He was born on November 6. 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph and Charlotte (nee Skomurski) Beyster. He was a 1965 Fenger High School graduate and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he worked on the USS Newport News in Vietnam. While in the service he received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. On January 24, 1970, Tom married the love of his life, the late Jill (nee Nebeker) Beyster and they spent 52 yrs together before her passing on December 31, 2022. Tom retired from Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation, and Whirlpool. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 502, VFW Post 2511, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 102, where he volunteered helping veterans. Tom loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, especially his grandson, Cooper. With a heart full of love, and kindness, Tom was a secondary father to all his children's friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Tom) Beyster-Staack of Miller; his son, Bryan (Toni) Beyster of Valparaiso; grandchildren, Cooper Beyster, Zachary Hughes, and Michael, Jack and Danica St. Arnaud; and many other loving family members and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Jill Beyster and sister, Elizabeth Mays.
In lieu of flowers donations to the D.A.V at DAV102.org in memory of Tom would be appreciated.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana 46368. A memorial visitation will also be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM -until the time of the service. The celebration of Tom's life will continue at American Legion Post 502, 429 County Road 750 North, Valparaiso, IN 46385. A Private family burial will be held at Angel Crest Cemetery.
