Thomas "Tommy" Gonzales

Thomas "Tommy" Gonzales, age 68, of Miller Beach Indiana, passed away on December 16, 2023. He is survived by his two children Dawn (Johnny) Martinez of Crown Point IN and Michael (Elizabeth) Gonzales of Munster IN; the loves of his life, five grandchildren Johnny & Dominic Martinez and Ayden, Julian & Madelyn Gonzales; eight siblings and a plethora of nieces and nephews whose children now have children.

He is proceeded in death by his son Thomas Gonzales Jr and his parents Robert and Elizabeth Gonzales.

The majority of his career was at GATX prior to his retirement in 2016. He was also a graduate of Purdue University Northwest. His family was the center of his soul. He spent his days attending events for his grandkids and any family function he could (and there were many). He thrived in holiday and celebration settings. He loved the beach, good music, great friends, and authentic Mexican food. He took guitar lessons and became an amazing photographer during retirement. His specialty was landscape and bird photography, with his photos even making occasional appearances on WGN news.

He was a consistent, hardworking man who demanded excellence from others. In recent years, he became an inspiration, showing people the beauty of the world through his eyes. He will be deeply missed by all.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, Indiana 46368. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Portage, Indiana. A visitation for Tommy will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage, Indiana.
