THOMAS “TOM KAT” MAGALLANEZ, SR., age 79, of Hobart, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 20, 1946 in McAllen, TX. He retired from BP Amoco after many years of service as a machinist. Thomas was a member of the VFW Post #9323 Auxiliary and the Sociedad Mutualista Mexico. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louisa (nee Serratto); 3 children, Mark (Sylvia) Magallanez, Thomas Magallanez, Jr. and Rich (Michelle) Medellin; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 6 brothers, Joe, Jesse, Javier, Arturo, Angel and Alex; 6 sisters, Juliann, Maria Louisa, Yolanda, Aurora, Olivia, and Margie; other loving family and dear friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Pineda Magallanez; godparents, Paul and Lucy Mares; stepparents, Ruben and Eduviges Magallanez; son, Alex Magallanez; brothers, Robert, Ruben Jr., Victor; and sister, Theresa Torres.

There will be a visitation for Thomas on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 2- 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. There will be additional visitation on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Services will conclude at the funeral home and cremation will take place at a later time.
