Thomas H. Medley

Age 88, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. He was born on July 28, 1926 in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee to the late William Charlie and Delia Anne Lou (nee Gordon) Medley. Thomas was a retired fitter for American Bridge in Gary, IN and proudly served his county in the United States Army, Parachute Infantry 11th AB Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post 260 and a past member of the VFW and Mason. On December 28, 1946 Thomas married the love of his life Erlene Hathcock in Mississippi. Thomas will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife Erlene Medley of Portage, IN; five children; Thomas Dwayne Medley of Valparaiso, Charlotte (John) Russell of Portage, Kathy (Bob) Ton of Porter, Paula (Chuck) Powers of Ohio and Teresa (George Currier) Tachik of Lake Station; 17 grandchildren, 29 great –grandchildren; two sisters, Ollie Mae (John) Brock and Willie Bea Vormittag both of Tennessee, many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Dale Medley; his parents; three brothers, Jesse Clyde, Walter C and Robert Lee Medley and sister, Ludie Pearl Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the VNA Hospice Arthur B & Ethel V. Horton in Valparaiso would be appreciated.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ron Smith officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Ave. Portage. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., with an American Legion Service at 7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
