Thomas J. Runk, Sr.

Thomas J. Runk, Sr., age 84, of Hobart, passed away on March 5, 2026. He was born on August 7, 1941, in Gary, Indiana. Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On September 5, 1969, he married Christine Nowak in Crown Point, Indiana. He worked as a millwright for IMCO Recycling in Chicago Heights.

Thomas enjoyed riding his bike and birdwatching. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (Kelly) Runk, Hawk (Scott) Whalen, and Thomas (Cathy) Runk; grandchildren, Courtney (Zack) Farkas, Allie Runk, Nick (Gabby) Trottier, Ryan (Heather) Malott, and Noah Runk; and great-grandson, Griffin Trottier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lillian Smith, and his beloved wife, Christine Runk.

Memorial contributions in Thomas’ name may be made to the Hobart Humane Society in honor of his love for his cats.
