Tonya R. Smith March 25, 1975 – May 27, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tonya R. Smith, who passed away on May 27, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 51.

Tonya was born on March 25, 1975, in North Judson, Indiana. She was a proud member of the Hobart Eagles and was known for her kind heart, strength, and positive spirit. Even through her sickness, Tonya continued to stay positive and brought light to those around her.

Tonya truly lived for her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. She enjoyed playing darts, bingo, and always had a love for Mountain Dew. Her laughter, resilience, and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her father, Henry D. Smith; her three sons, Harrison (Jamie) Smith, Jerome Smith, and Matt (Spencer) Musall; her four beloved grandchildren, Owen, Harrison Jr., Leilani, and Lyla; her two brothers, Walter (Candice) Johnson and Dwight Smith; her best friends, Chandra and Maureen; along with many other loving family members and friends.

Tonya was preceded in death by her mother, Genevie Smith, and her grandmother, Sarah Smith.

A visitation for Tonya will be held on Friday June 5, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342.

A funeral service for Tonya will also be held on Friday June 5, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
