VAIDIA "VADA" L . SHARPIN, age 93, of Portage, and formerly a longtime Lake Station resident, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. She was born in Crown Point on October 2, 1920 to Joseph and Isabella Kentner. Vada was a member of the South Haven Salvation Army Church and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1961; her first husband, William Davis; 2 grandchildren, John Warren Clifford and John Anthony Roque; 3 brothers, Walter, James and Robert Kentner; 2 sisters, Evagene McClean and Catherine Hudson.
Vada is survived by her 6 children, George (Sandy) George of Chesterton, Wilma (the late Dave) Clifford of Hobart, Sylvia (the late Tom) Simanson of Highland, Sandra (John) Roque of Portage, Connie (Corky) McConnell of Portage, and Jackie (Brad) Smith of Portage; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Vada will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Major Mary Postma officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in Hebron.
