Vernell Provins, age 80, a longtime resident of Portage passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011. She was born on June 6, 1930 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi the daughter of Alexander and Fanny Durham. Vernell was married to Lester Provins on May 22, 1948 in Tishomingo County. Vernell was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, bingo, crossword puzzles, and reading.

Vernell is survived by her loving family; daughters Linda (Eugene) Kolarik, Crown Point, Sandy (Randy) Kinsler, Valparaiso, and Carol (Ray) Shears, London, Kentucky, son Lester E. Provins, Jr., Fort Myers, Florida, 6 grandchildren Melissa (Sam) Higgason, Gene Kolarik, Jr., Jessica (Dan) Bonta, Toby (Christina) Provins, Raymond Shears III, and Ryan Shears, 10 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Vanessa Provins, and other loving family and dear friends. Vernell was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Lester Provins who passed on July 27, 2010, her sisters Estelle, Myrtle, Mamie, Vetress, and Jewel, and her brothers Boney, Ed, RC, Guytee, and Clarence.

A memorial visitation honoring and remembering Vernell and Lester Provins will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with a memorial service and remembrance at 1:30 pm with Pastor Randy Forsythe, officiating.
