Victor Caplinger, age 79, of Portage passed away Tuesday 1/26/2016 in his home. Victor was born September 18, 1936, in Lincoln, Illinois to the late Milford and Ida Beatrice (Humberd) Caplinger, Sr. Victor was a site office manager for several local construction companies and retired at Superior Construction. He was an active member of the Portage YMCA, Assumption BVM Parish in New Chicago and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Chapter #240.
Victor is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Christine; two brothers Milford Caplinger, Jr. of Portage and William (Jeanette) Caplinger of Springfield, MO; one sister Jean Warren of Crown Point; many nieces and nephews; and his devoted dog Pumpkin who remained by his bedside until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers John and Robert; and his sister Betty Lou.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin Friday January 29, 2016 with 9:15 am Prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, IN and proceed to Assumption BVM Church 3530 Illinois Street, Hobart, IN at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
