Victor J. Levenda, age 92 of Lake Station passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011. He was born in Johnstown, PA on April 30, 1919 to the late Peter and Susan Levenda. He attended Holy Trinity Slovak Grade School and Froebel High School where he played basketball and football. Vic married Mary J. Hawrys on July 19, 1941 and moved to East Gary, Lake Station, in 1943. He taught plumbing and heating at Ivy Tech in Gary and Valparaiso. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Francis Xavier and a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Ryder Council #4047 and Sonta Maria Venegas Assembly of the 4th degree. Vic was appointed Plumbing Inspector in Lake Station in 1964. He retired from US Steel in 1981 from tubing specialties with 42 years of service. Vic served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He is survived by 2 sons, Terry (Margo) Levenda of Portage, IN; Gerry (Pat) Levenda of Tinley Park, IL; 1 daughter, Vicky Levenda of Lake Station, IN; 1 daughter-in-law, Rosemary Levenda of Portage, IN; 1 brother, Joseph (Rita) Levenda of Valparaiso, IN; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Levenda of Crown Point, IN; Anne Levenda of Merrillville, IN; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Levenda, 1 son, Larry Levenda 3 brothers, John, Leonard and Edward Levenda, and 1 sister, Ella Martin.

Funeral services Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 10 a.m. directly at St Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam Street, Lake Station with Rev. Eduardo Malagon officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 4 p.m. prayer service and a 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana.
