VIOLA CATHERINE DAVIS (nee SHIREY), age 91, of Winona Lake, and formerly of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Viola was a longtime member of Hobart First United Methodist Church and enjoyed making pine cone wreaths for the Christmas Bazaars. She was active as a Girl Scout leader when her girls were young, and in later years volunteered for Meals on Wheels and worked with the Saint Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. Viola was very craft oriented and also loved getting others involved. She will be remembered for her green thumb, her playful spontaneity, her smile, and love of life whether it was running down sand dunes, water balloon fights, or flying kites with grandkids.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, Elaine (Peter) Winske of Boca Raton, FL, Susan (Wayne) Johnson of Leesburg, and Sandra Davis (Jerry) Kaplan of Salt Lake City, UT; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Leslie (Dorothy) Shirey of Syracuse.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold O. Davis; parents, Dwight and May Shirey; brothers and sisters, Pearl, Ernest, Austin, Helen, and Russell.

A funeral service for Viola will be Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Rev. Jonathan Gosser officiating.
