Violet Madeline Evans

Age 96, a lifetime resident of Northwest, Indiana passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, Avalon Springs in Valparaiso. She was born on October 22, 1928, in Gary, Indiana to the late Joseph and Rose (nee Matkovich) Poldrugach. She was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School in Gary, class of 1946. Prior to motherhood, she worked as a clerk in the Gary Court System.  Violet married the love of her life the late Lynn Evans on September 16, 1950, in Gary, Indiana and they spent 64 wonderful years together. Vi was a devoted wife and stay at home mother, during which time she volunteered as a cub scout leader and for various children's activities. Later in her life, she worked in income tax preparation. As a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Hobart for 70 plus yrs., she participated as an event chairperson, Eucharistic minister, and a member of St. Anne's Confraternity. She supported many charities and served as a Red Cross volunteer. She enjoyed traveling, camping, snow birding in Florida, gardening, sewing, bird watching, walking, reading, and cheering on the Bears. She will be fondly remembered for her strength of character, hard work, her good advice, her smiles, laughter, and sense of humor.

She is survived by her five children; Bill (Cathy) Evans, Mary (Chuck) King, Bob (Debby) Evans, Don Evans (Lois Smith) and Denise (Jim) Gainer; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn Evans, parents, Joseph and Rose Poldrugach, and her grandson, Austin Locke.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 E. 2nd Street, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Memorial visitation will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342, with a  St. Anne Confraternity service at 6:30 pm.
