Obituary

VIRGEN M. MIRANDA, age 75, of Gary, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at University of Chicago.  She was born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico to the late Artemio Rodriguez and Adela Collazo. She was a devout Catholic and 49 year member of Holy Angels Cathedral.   Virgen loved playing BINGO, going to the casinos, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ines P. Miranda; 3 sons, Jerry Miranda, Joe Miranda and Ivan (Wanda) Miranda; 4 daughters, Rosie (Brian) Spencer, Virgenmina Miranda, Gladys Miranda, Veronica (Michael) Garcia; 13 grandchildren, Julyssa Miranda, Jordalys Calo, Amber Calo, Milagro Miranda,  Jomari Miranda, Ashley Calo, Ivan Miranda, Jr., Jose Miranda, Jr., Jose Cruz, Ivan Cruz, Allycia Garcia, Michaela Garcia, and Gabriel Garcia; 5 great grandchildren, Nehemiah, Julyanna and Kingston Magee, Carlos Gonzalez, and Julian Serna; 1 brother, and 4 sisters; favorite aunt to numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Virgen was also preceded in death by her brother.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Angels Cathedral, 640 Tyler St., Gary, IN 46402.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2018  from 2-8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, (219) 762-3013 or go online to extend condolences at www.reesfuneralhomes.com
