VIRGINIA L. "GINNIE" AHRENS, age 73, of Hobart, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Riley Hospice in Munster, Indiana. Ginnie was born April 27, 1938 in Gary, Indiana and was a lifelong Northwest Indiana resident. Ginnie was a joy to all who knew her. She had been a hairdresser since 1959 and studied with Paul Mitchell and Vidal Sassoon. Ginnie loved her profession and truly brought beauty to this world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Ahrens, parents, August & Mary Mecchia, brothers, August, Jr. & Tom Mecchia, special friend, Beverly (Farley) Fancher and son-in-law, Randy Rosenberry.
Ginnie is survived by 4 children: Tina (Sid) Wilson of Hobart, Christine Wedding of Portage, Vickie (Marty) Taylor of Valparaiso and Jeff (Muna) Ahrens of Crown Point, 11 grandchildren: Christian, Toni, Elliott, Jeremy, Ashlee, Alyssa, Cydnee, Raymond, Simone, Malissa and Kyle, 3 great grandchildren: Grace, Ilijah and Gianni, brother, Gilbert (Marilyn) Mecchia of Merrillville and special friends, Pam & Bud, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. .
Visitation for Ginnie will be held Monday June 20, 2011 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W Old Ridge Rd, Hobart. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev.
