Walter Hawkinson, age 72, of Portage, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017. He was born in Gary, IN on June 17, 1944 to the late Glenn and Frances Hawkinson. He was a proud member of the Unites States Army. He later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. He was also a member of The Northern Indiana Historical Power Association and enjoyed serving the community through his work at Qwik Step Outdoor. Walter will be remembered as an animal lover, who in his free time, volunteered at the GB Animal Rescue.

Walter is survived by a sister, Nancy (David) Horrisberger and several loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Allan and Rollin Hawkinson.
