Walter Povlinski Jr.

Age 86, of Portage passed away April 3, 2024, at his home. He was born March 3,1938 to the late Walter Sr. and Ann (Romanov) Povlinski. In his youth he lived in Tolleston, a section of Gary and graduated from Tolleston High School in 1956. He enlisted in the United States Navy reserves in 1955-1961 serving in active duty from 1956-1958. On May 27, 1957, Walter married the love of his life Carol Ann Sharp in Gary, Indiana. He retired from US Steel, where he worked in the Mason Department for 42 years, retiring in 1998. Walter loved the outdoors, his first love was fishing, he enjoyed hunting and was a master of camping. He was very adventurous, he took his RV all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Alaska. Walter's garden was also one of his favorite places to be, with his flowers and feeding the birds. He was known as the "sucker man" to his grandchildren and neighborhood children.

He is survived by his bride of 66 years, Carol Ann Povlinski; two sons, David A. (Sandra) Povlinski of Valparaiso, and their three children, Bryan (Marie), Jessica and Katelyn Povlinski; son, Dane A. Povlinski of Portage, and his two children, Lyssa, and Jason Povlinski; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Robert) Ragala and Cynthnia Povlinski; one niece and one nephew and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Povlinski Sr., and mother, Ann Povlinski.
