Walter Stephens, age 65, of Lake Station, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at home. He was born on March 2, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Benjamin and Maybell Stephens. To say that Walter was a family man is a gross understatement. He was a proud man and worked very hard to be able to provide a good life for his children, all of whom he loved very much. He was talented at playing guitar and taught all of his children how to play. Most importantly, he cherished spending the time with them. He liked poker, chess, country music and binge watching TV. He will always be remembered by those who love him for his strength and integrity.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Frank) Towasnicki, Benjamin Stephens, Timothy Croschere-Stephens, Michael Stephens and Jessica Stephens; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Dannie (Kim) Stephens; sisters, Shirley Thompson, Carol (Paul) Hawkins; sister-in-law, Veronica Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his beloved, Cindy Lejman;son, Wayne Stephens; parents, Benjamin and Maybell Stephens; brothers, Benjamin, Larry, Henry, James and Roy Stephens.

A funeral service for Walter will take place Monday, December 2, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage.
