Wayne Richard Doty

Wayne R. Doty, age 65, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017. He was born in Gary, Indiana on August 27, 1951 to George Richard and Alice (nee Fisher) Doty. Wayne is survived by his mother, Alice Doty; sisters, Deborah (James) Landman, Kathleen (Gilbert) Ehresman, Cheryl (John) Doty-Gerngross, Gale (Ed) Koloziej; brother, Scott Doty; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Wayne graduated from William A. Wirt High School Class of 1970. After high school, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Landmark Sign Group for most of his adult life, managing sign installations, sales, and as a project manager.
He enjoyed his volunteer work with the local Lions Club and the Boy Scouts of America. His passion and inspiration as an artist was creating jewelry from stones collected along the shores of Lake Michigan. Wayne enjoyed being on the water, sailing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his son, Samual Nicholas Doty; sister, Lynn M. Doty; and father, George R. Doty.
A memorial service for Wayne will take place Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Jerry Patrick, officiating. A Burial of cremains will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
