Wayne Oscar Meitzler

Wayne Oscar Meitzler, age 83, of Hobart passed away Saturday September 12, 2026, at the Crown Point Health Campus in Crown Point. Wayne was born at home in Portage, Indiana to the late John and Nellie (Jud) Meitzler on January 1, 1943.. He was a member of Portage United Pentecostal Church. Wayne was a carpenter that was self employed working for Meitzler Construction Company. He was a gifted carpenter and did a lot of Custom Woodworking and Cabinet work. Wayne loved to fish local lakes and streams, he also made his own lures and tied his own flies and jigs.

Wayne is survived by his care giver, Stephanie Boucher; a brother, Jim Meitzler; and three nephews, Skip, Darrell, and Mike; his dinner companion Sheila Raye; and many dear friends and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Marie; a daughter, Lana Sefress; and two brothers, John and Charlie.

A memorial service for Wayne will be held at the Portage United Pentecostal Church 2865 Willowdale Road Portage, Indiana Monday at 1 pm. A graveside funeral service will be held at Calvary Cemetery 2701 Willowdale Road Portage, Indiana 46368 at 2:00 pm Monday September 21, 2026. Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue was entrusted with Wayne’s services.
