Wayne "Doug" Terry, age 85, of Portage, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016. Doug was born on October 22, 1930 in Logansport, Indiana to the late Clifford and Helen Terry. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and received a Korean Camp Ribbon, UN Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Occupation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Air Medal. He was also a member of the Portage V.F.W, American Legion Post #260, and IU Alumni Association. He was a teacher at Portage High School for 20 years where he ran the Planetarium. Doug earned a Master's Degree in Geology from Indiana University and later became a professor of Geology at IUN. Doug will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Doug is survived by sons, Matthew (Linda) Terry, Kevin Terry, Chris (Hope) Terry, Kurt (Amanda) Terry; daughters, Ellen Mesich, Stephanie (Todd) Dickard, Kirsten (Chris) Doell, Ann Terry; grandchildren, Hannah Doell, Katie Doell, Forest Terry, Caitlin Terry, Meghann (Alex) Gutierrez, Ian Mesich, Coleen Mesich, Orry Dickard, Nina Terry, Patrick Terry, Nathan Upchurch, Alyssa Terry, Carrie Terry, Lena Terry, Garret Wood, Courtland Wood; great grandchildren, Xavier and Uriah Gutierrez; brother, Digby (Barbara) Terry.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret L. Terry; granddaughter, Carley Dickard; daughter in law, Cheri Terry; son in law, Mark "Buzz" Mesich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doug's name may be made to the Veteran's Administration at 9301 Madison Street, Crown Point, IN 46307.

A funeral service for Doug will take place at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave Portage, IN 46368 with Deacon Robert Bonta officiating.
