Wilda Larue Sawaski

Wilda LaRue Sawaski (nee Mills), age 80 a longtime Portage resident passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025.  She was born in Gary, Indiana on December 13, 1944, to the late Edwin and Audre Mills.  She worked as a Health Caregiver at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso.  She enjoyed sewing, crafts, art, drawing, and waterfalls.

She is survived by one daughter, Roberta (Robert Hamscher) Sisco of Burns Harbor, IN;  five grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Sisco, Rhiannon (Vince Brown) Daniel, Shelby (Shane McLarty) Sisco, Sabrina (John Maynard) Sisco, and Dalton Durocher, twelve great-grandchildren, Myles E. Sisco, Dezhon Knight, Aaliyah Winters, Kristina Rosas, Arianna Rosas, Owen McLarty , Mason McLarty, Anabella McLarty, Avery Maynard, Daisy Maynard, Lily Maynard, Terrell Brown, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three children, Wendell D. "Butch" Sisco, Jason E. "Jay"  Sisco, and Jennifer Sisco, brothers and sisters, Jimmy Mills, Richard Mills, Betty Williams, Juanita Russell, Darley Heavilin, and Ronnie Mills.

Funeral services are Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 4 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Pastor Robert Mann officiating.  Visitation is just prior to the service from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.  Cremation will follow with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Service.  (219) 762-3013.
