Obituary

WILLIAM JOSEPH BERES, age 91, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born on March 11, 1933 to the late Joseph and Anna (nee Polomchak) Beres. William grew up in Gary and became a resident of Portage in 1965. He had a 40 plus year career as a bank manager in Portage with First Federal Savings & Loan and later Fifth Third Bank. William served in the US Army and was a member of the local VFW and American Legion. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. More recently he enjoyed being a part of the Bonner Center and Winamac Auto Club. William was a faithful member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church.

He is survived by his 2 grandchildren, Andrew Beres of Chicago, IL and Lauren Beres of Kansas City, MO; daughter-in-law, Terese Beres of Mundelein, IL; nephews, Thomas (Janice) Gravelle of Clive, IA and Jeffrey (Suzanne) Gravelle of Indianapolis; niece, Denise (Ron) Babcock.

William was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Beres (nee Barton); son, William Beres; sister, Betty Gravelle (nee Beres).

The family of William wishes to express their gratitude to the many neighbors of William on Peterson St. who assisted him with many matters through the last several years.
