William D. "Bill" Crotty Sr., age 91, of Portage, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Horton VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. He was born on September 6, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Louise and William Crotty. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

Bill is survived by his son, William David (Karen) Crotty of Apollo Beach, FL; daughter, Carol L.(Frank) Komenda of Portage; two grandchildren, Bryce F. and Lauren N. Komenda.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Crotty; beloved wife, Eleanor "Ruth" Crotty; and sister, Mary Louise Bucey. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Honor Flight Chicago for the kind generosity extended to Bill during his 2012 Honor Flight. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Honor Flight Chicago, 938 West Montana St., Chicago, IL 60614 to enable other veterans to have the same experience.

Funeral services will take place Friday, April 22, 2016 beginning with 9:15 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage and then proceeding to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am with Rev. Paul Quanz officiating. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the funeral home from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
