William "Bill" Cherne, age 74, of Hobart, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was born on January 13, 1942 in Erfurt, Germany to the late Josef and Justine Cherne. He was employed as a Truck Driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local #142 in Merrillville. In his free time, Bill was very active and enjoyed gardening, snow skiing and biking. He was also an avid Pilot and loved to fly planes.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Leah Cherne; daughters, Justine (Michael C. Moore) Cherne, Kristine Cherne, Jennifer Cherne; grandchildren, Bianca Cherne, Hailee Samuels; brother, Josef (Rose Chiu) Cherne; sister, Mira Cherne; nephews, Dusan (Olga) Cherne, William "Billy" Cherne; great niece, Nusa Cherne; special extended family, Jody Cherne and Jackie Cherne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Josef and Justine Cherne; and two sisters, Josefine and Darka Cherne.
