William Joe Cooper, age 52 of Portage passed away Monday, March 10, 2014. He was born on October 17, 1961 in Gary, Indiana to the late Leroy Glen and Mary Jane Cooper. He was a longtime Northwest Indiana resident and had worked as a Diesel Mechanic for many years. He is survived by his son, Matthew Cooper of Michigan City, IN; his siblings, Dale Cooper of FL; Brenda (Gerry Molloy) Martinez of Hammond, IN; Dean (Maria) Cooper of Hammond, IN; Charles (Veronica) Cooper of Portage, IN; Wanda Mosier, Jimmie (Mary) Prewitt, Glen (Joy) Prewitt, Jamie Prewitt, sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Cooper, his siblings, Marvin (Mable) Cooper, Patricia (Gordon) Cole, Wilma Dupee, Harry Lloyd Prewitt, Jerald Prewitt, and brother-in-law, Dale Barger. Cremation will take place with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Olson Chapel, Portage. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 4 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2610 Ohio Street, Michigan City, Indiana 46360 with Pastor Bill Payne officiating.
