William F. LaFever, age 76, of Union Township passed away Monday August 29, 2016 at the Porter County VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Bill retired from US Steel with 37 years of service. He was a veteran of the Indiana National Guard. Bill was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and a former member of the Valparaiso American Legion. He enjoyed reading, working on electronics and was very proud of obtaining his FCC License. Bill was a loving husband of 51 years, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Shirley of Union Twp.; his children Suzanne (Eric) Johnson of Crown Point and William A. (Jeanne) LaFever of Union Twp.; four grandchildren Taylor and Lauren Johnson and Amanda and Jacob LaFever; special nieces and nephew Candy, Andrea and Adam; three sisters Genevieve Baril and Patricia Hansen both of Florida and Margaret Cotkin of Texas; and many more nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Robert and Richard.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday September 3, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 509 W. Division Road, Valparaiso, IN 46385. Burial will follow in Mosier Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Friday at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342 and from 9-10 am Saturday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are preferred to the Porter County VNA Hospice 2401 Valley Drive Valparaiso, IN 46383.
