William John Matthews, age 70, of Valparaiso passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was born June 3, 1952, in Gary, Indiana to the late Robert Harry and Margaret Grace (nee Johansen) Matthews. William retired from Methodist Hospital where he worked as a director of plant operations. He was an avid golfer and fished occasionally and enjoyed playing softball and bowling. But, above all he loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his son, Jeffery Matthews of Portage; daughter in law, Tasha Matthews of Valparaiso; two granddaughters, Addison and Raegan Matthews of Valparaiso; two brothers, Robert (Linda) Matthews of Valparaiso, and James Matthews of Lakeland, Florida; sister, Lynda Tesci of Kendallville, Indiana; special friend, Karon Ball; dear friend, Beverly Ford Weyer; mother of his children, Florence Ann Piddington; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents.
