William Blanton Morton Sr., age 86, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 13, 1931 in Wartace, Tennessee to the late Omar William and Margaret (nee Elrod) Morton. He married the love of his life Evelyn Picon on March 8, 1950 in Hobart, Indiana. William was an Inland Steel retiree, and was the owner and operator of Bill Morton's Pro Shop. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for bowling in the NIBA and Indiana State; he also served as the past president of NIBA and IBPSIA. William will be remembered as a loving husband; father, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Evelyn Morton of Portage; two daughters, Patricia Stonehill and Deborah (Richard) Gossett; sister, Esther Henning; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
William was preceded in death by his two sons, William Blanton Morton Jr. and Douglas Clifton Morton; his parents; brother, Samuel and three sisters, Betty, Clara and Linda.
A funeral service for William will take place Friday, December 1, 2017, 10:00am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Burial will take place at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation for William will take place Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 2:00 pm -8:00 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
