William Floyd "Red" Courtney

William Floyd "Red" Courtney, age 84, a lifetime resident of Lake Station passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011. He was born on October 2, 1926 in East Gary, Indiana the son of Fredrick and Rose Courtney. He was a 1945 graduate of East Gary Edison High School. Floyd proudly served his country in the United States Army. Floyd was married to Connie Karras on June 28, 1947 in East Gary. Floyd retired after 40 years of service as a machinist for United States Steel. Floyd was a member of the American Legion Post # 100. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and woodworking. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Floyd is survived by his loving family; daughter Lori Brant, Valparaiso, son Del Courtney, Mobile, AL, grandchildren; Jason (Kristi) Brant, Valparaiso, Kristopher Brant, Valparaiso, David Brant, Valparaiso, and Candace Stalvey, Hahira, GA, great-grandchildren, Cole Young, Courtney Stalvey, Jacob Brant, and Connor Brant, sisters Jean (Jim) Toscani, Valparaiso, and Jeanette Mihal, Hobart, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Connie Courtney, his son Craig Courtney, his brother Ed Sadalak, and his brother Roy Courtney.
A visitation for Floyd Courtney will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
