WILLIAM E. "SKIP" WALTERS, age 58, of Portage, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 at Methodist Hospital, Southlake Campus. Skip was a lifelong Northwest Indiana resident and graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Glen Park, class of 1972. He was very active in the Portage Jaycees serving as president and volunteered for many community activities. Skip enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was employed as an optical technician currently for Vision Point in Valparaiso and formerly employed at Look Optical, C & B Optical and Lenscrafters.
Skip is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, son, Jeremy Walters (Stephanie Anderson) and her son, Stephen Anderson of Portage, father, Bill G. Walters of Glen Park, brother, Rob (Julie) Walters of Jacksonville, FL, sister, Gail (Albert) Burnett of Tennessee, sister-in-law, Dory Melvin of Massachusetts, many special nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles and many wonderful friends, especially his canine friend and buddy, Spot. His mother, Charmaine (nee Lytle) Walters, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 10 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, with Pastor Jason Devries officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Burial of Skip's cremated remains will take place at Blake Cemetery at a later date.
