William J. "Whitey" Shukitis, III., age 79 of Lake Station passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born on August 14, 1936 in Georgetown, Illinois to the late William and Adele Shukitis. William served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as local chairman for the BRAC, Lodge 905. William retired from the E J and E railroad after 35 years of service. He was an avid Duck hunter and fisherman. William loved watching TV and drinking diet Coke.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Shukitis of Lake Station, IN; three sons, Bill (Barb) Shukitis of Westville, IN; Rocky (Patti) Shukitis of Portage, IN; Matthew (Elaine) McDermott of Lake Station, IN; three daughters, Sandi (Dave) Summers of Jackson, TN; Christina (Alex) Powell of North Port, FL; Jennifer (Matthew) Sessoms of Brownsburg, IN; one sister, Marlene Charochok of Glen Park, IN; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Shukitis.
