Willis "Sonny" Hennings Jr.

Age 87, of Chesterton formerly of Valparaiso passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Addison Pointe Nursing Home. He was born on December 28,1933 to the late Willis S. and Velma (nee LaCoss) Hennings Sr. in Arkansas. On June 27, 1953, Sonny married Jessie A. Sinks. He was a Rockwell International retiree, where he worked as a laborer. Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Army  and  was a member of Church of Prophecy of Portage.

Sonny is survived by his four children;  Lloyd T. (Tammy) Alsman, Michael L. Hennings, Jeffrey A. (Beth Ann) Hennings, and Donna M. Pappas, like a son, Carl (Becky) Chambers; three brothers, Phillip, Greg, and Randy Hennings; four sisters, Margie Chambers, Margaret Howe, Patricia Rapo and Cindy Kegebein; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other loving family members and special church friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie (nee Sinks) Hennings, his parents; sons, Kensey Alsman and Joe Hennings, daughter, Debbie Hennings; three brothers, Harry, Paul and George Hennings; sister, Betty Jo Bellar; and son-in-law, Tom Pappas.

Funeral service for Sonny will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.  at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held  from 10:00 a.m. until time of service also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
