Zachary Taylor Matthias Banasiak, age 24, of Hobart passed away Saturday August 22, 2020 at his home.  Zach was born January 1, 1996 in Blue Island, Illinois to Michael and Karen (Witulski) Banasiak.  He was an umpire and referee who was passionate about getting into proper position to make the correct call for many sports leagues and worked several local jobs.  Zachary loved making music and writing songs; watching and playing sports of all kinds, especially UFC Fighting, the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls.  He also loved spending time with his dogs.

Zach is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen Banasiak of Hobart; his grandmother, Shirlee Iwinski of Sauk Village, IL; four aunts and two uncles, Wendy (Mark) Gasinski, Tracie (Dave) Vaidilauski, Jenny Iwinski, Crystal (Ish) Lopez, James Banasiak and Richard Banasiak; three great aunts and one great uncle; Bob (Kathy) Banasiak, Patricia Johnson, Barbara (Roy) Murray and Mary Beth (Daniel) Reynders; several cousins including, Tyler, Brooke, Alyssa, Vincent, Jonathan, Phillip Jr., Gia, Matthias, Sarah (Chris) Sayre, Collin, Nick, and Michell; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mitchell Witulski, Jr., James and Kathleen Banasiak; his great grandparents, Mitchell and Carmella Witulski, Harold and Josephine Johnson, and Chester and Edna Banasiak.

Visitation for Zachary will take place at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday August 28, 2020.  On Saturday August 29, 2020 a Mass of Christian Burial will begin with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home and process to St. Bridget Catholic Church, 107 Main Street, Hobart, Indiana at 10:00 am, where Rev. Benjamin Ross will celebrate.  Cremation will follow.
