Gene D. Kemp

Gene D. Kemp, age 80, a life-long resident of Hobart, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, Deccember 2, 2021.

Gene was born on June 26, 1941 in Hobart, IN to the late Harmon and Maurine Kemp.  He was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1959.  Gene met the love of his life, Patricia, at church and married in 1963, spending 58 loving years together until her passing in August of 2014.  He worked as an Assistant Superintendent at US Steel, where he retired with 30+ years of service.

Gene was a member of the Porter County Amateur Radio Club (PCARC) and enjoyed "talking to everyone over the world" on the HAM Radio.  He was very interested in Hobart history and genealogy, putting in hard work to discover and record 13 previous generations of his family.  Gene's grandkids were the light of his life.  He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all.

Gene is survived by his children: Greg (Jennifer) Kemp and their children, Sidney, Alex (Miranda) and Jackie and Jill (Dan) Zanolla and their children, Jacob, Dylan, and Jaxon; sisters: Pat (Joe) Waddell and Charlotte (Fred) Troy; brother-in-law: Mel Ramsey; and many nieces and nephews.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife: Patricia; daughter: Lisa Kemp; parents: Harmon and Maurine; and brother: Jerry Kemp.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart) on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 3:00-7:00 P.M.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10 A.M. from Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.  At rest, Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN.
